One of my all-time favorite models, Luc. He is a dancer, so he easily takes on interesting poses containing a sense of gesture. Also, he sometimes wears his white, flowing, dancing pants, which allow for other interesting lines and contrasts. Five fifteen minute poses. Conté pencil highlighted with conté crayon on toned pastel paper. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

And a few four minute poses – also well worth spotlighting but I only have one shot.35 x 50 cm. or 13 3/4 x 19 3/4 in.

One of the regular models, Ina from South America. Maybe Brazil? She is very friendly but not that creative in terms of her poses so I’m always glad if something can emerge from a session with her. In this case, the portraits capture a fairly good likeness. I decided to spotlighted one here simply because it is an interesting study using a cool blue conté crayon for the shadows and dark accents, which I don’t usually do. Three fifteen minute studies. A good model tonight. She took interesting poses that translated into a few good drawings.

Two fifteen minute studies, one above and one here below. Conté pencil highlighted with conté crayon pastel sticks on pastel paper. 332.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

Two of the four minute poses. Conté crayon pencil on sketching paper. 35 x 50 cm. or 13 3/4 x 19 3/4 in.

Ina, from South America. Not one of my favorite models, simply because her posing is not very creative. So I’m always glad if  a few drawings make the cut. Actually, the highlighted one included here is a pretty good likeness of her. Conté pencil highlighted with conté crayon on toned pastel paper. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

A model whose ethnic characteristics are Indian. So she has almost bluish tints to the highlights of both her hair and skin. Nice, but it can be chromatically challenging if you take your visual impression literally.

One fifteen minute pose, spotlighted above. Conté pencil heightened with conté crayon on toned pastel paper. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

Three four minute gesture studies. Black charcoal on toned sketching paper. 35 x 50 cm. or 13 3/4 x 19 3/4 in.

The model with ponytails. A fruitful session.

Luc, one of my favorite models. He takes great poses and often wears flowing white pants. Makes for interesting textures and flowing lines.

Two fifteen minute poses, one above and one here below. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

Two four minute poses. Decided to use pastel paper for the quick sketches tonight. I usually don’t do that since it is more expensive. But it does possess a different tactile quality than the cheap sketching paper – allowing for more drag on the conté crayon. Sometimes you want that, sometimes you don’t. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

A good session with a few keepers. The model posed both clothed and naked. I enjoyed using a sienna colored pencil to seek out the form on this warm gray toned paper. It creates a very low complimentary color vibration.

Three fifteen minute poses. One above, two below. Conté pencil highlighted with conté crayon. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

One four minute gesture study. Conté pencil on Cansons pastel paper. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.

A great model tonight. Short, muscular, self-contained. Reminded me of our friend, Gordon. My favorite spotlighted here. Saying much with an economy of means, allowing the figure emerge from the paper.

Here below, four fifteen minute poses. Note the difference between using sienna and/or a darker brown conte pencil to define the figure. The darker line creates more contrast and definition. But is that what I want? Conté pencil highlighted with conté crayon on toned Canson pastel paper. 32.5 x 50 cm or 13 x 19 3/4 in.
